eSIM Setup & Transfer: Move Your Line the Easy Way
An eSIM is a built-in digital SIM that lets your phone connect to your carrier without a plastic card. This friendly guide walks you through setting one up or moving your existing line onto an eSIM, and our team is happy to do the whole thing for you in-store for free.
Before you start, make sure your phone supports eSIM and is unlocked, since a locked phone may refuse a new line. Back up your phone first, and do not throw away your old SIM or reset your old phone until the new eSIM is confirmed working. Once an eSIM QR code is scanned it usually cannot be reused, so activate it only when you are ready.

The repair process
-
1
Confirm your phone and carrier both support eSIM
Not every phone or plan can use an eSIM, so check both before you begin. On most phones you can look under the cellular or SIM settings for an "Add eSIM" option, and your carrier's website or support line can confirm your plan is eSIM-ready.
💡 Not sure? Bring your phone in and we will check its eSIM support and unlock status for you at no charge.
-
2
Understand what an eSIM actually is
An eSIM does the same job as the little plastic SIM card, but it lives inside your phone as software instead of a card you slide in. Because there is nothing to insert or lose, your line is downloaded and stored digitally, and many phones can hold more than one eSIM at a time.
💡 Think of it as your SIM card turned into an app your phone downloads instead of a card in a tray.
-
3
Get the carrier eSIM QR code or start the transfer
Your carrier provides the eSIM either as a QR code (by email, in your online account, or on a printout) or through their own app. If you are moving an existing line from a physical SIM or an old phone, use your carrier's app or website to begin the transfer to your new device.
💡 Stay on WiFi during this step so the eSIM download does not depend on the cellular signal you are about to switch.
-
4
Scan or activate the eSIM and label the line
In your phone's SIM or cellular settings, choose to add an eSIM and scan the QR code, or follow the carrier app's prompts to install it. When asked, give the line a clear label such as "Personal" or "Work" so you can tell your numbers apart.
💡 If a code is asked for, it usually comes from your carrier's email or app, not from the phone maker.
-
5
Verify calls, texts, and data are working
Once the eSIM is installed, place a test call, send a text, and load a web page over cellular data with WiFi turned off. Give the network a few minutes to finish activating if service does not appear right away.
💡 A quick restart often clears up a line that shows "No Service" right after activation.
-
6
Remove the old physical SIM and finish the transfer
Only after the new eSIM is confirmed working should you take out the old physical SIM or stop using the old phone. If you transferred a line, your carrier may automatically deactivate the old SIM, so keep it aside for a day before recycling it just in case.
💡 Keep any activation email or QR code until you are certain everything is stable, just in case support needs it.

Frequently asked questions
What exactly is an eSIM? +
An eSIM is a digital SIM built right into your phone, so your carrier's line is downloaded as software instead of coming on a plastic card. It works the same way for calls, texts, and data, but there is no tiny card to insert, lose, or damage.
Can I switch back to a physical SIM later? +
In most cases yes, as long as your phone still has a SIM tray and your carrier supports it. You would typically ask your carrier for a physical SIM and they can move the line back for you, and we are glad to help set that up in-store.
Can I use dual SIM with an eSIM? +
Many modern phones let you run two lines at once, such as one physical SIM plus one eSIM, or two eSIMs, which is handy for keeping personal and work numbers on the same device. Whether it works depends on your specific phone, so bring it by and we will check.
