Smartphone Speaker & Microphone Repair

Moderate ⏱ ~45 min Free diagnostic From $59

When callers can't hear you, you can't hear them, or audio sounds muffled, crackling, or dead, the cause is often just lint blocking the speaker mesh or a software setting — not always a broken part. Our shop diagnoses and cleans first (frequently no part needed), then replaces the specific faulty loudspeaker, earpiece, or microphone module and reseals the phone to restore water resistance.

Smartphone Speaker & Microphone Repair
⚠️
Why leave it to the pros

This is a professional service, not a DIY guide. Speaker mesh screens, acoustic gaskets, and waterproof seals are extremely small and delicate; a single misplaced pry or lost gasket can permanently destroy your phone's water resistance or short internal components. Improper cleaning or opening the phone yourself frequently causes more damage than the original fault. Please bring your device to us for a free diagnostic.

Professional tools we use

The repair process

  1. 1

    Intake & symptom diagnosis

We start by pinpointing which audio path is failing, because the loudspeaker (music/speakerphone), the earpiece speaker (held-to-ear calls), and the microphone (your voice out) can each fail on their own. Our technician runs test calls, plays media, and records a voice memo while you describe when the problem happens.

💡 Telling us exactly when it fails — every call, only on speaker, or only in loud places — helps us find the fault faster.

  2. 2

    Rule out software & settings

Many 'no sound' complaints are not hardware at all. We check volume levels, silent/Do-Not-Disturb and call-audio routing, Bluetooth handoff to another device, app permissions, and pending system updates. We may restart the phone and test in safe mode to see if a rogue app is muting audio.

💡 A stuck Bluetooth connection or a case covering the mic is a surprisingly common 'broken speaker' — and costs you nothing to fix.

  3. 3

Free cleaning of speaker & mic mesh

Pocket lint, dust, and dried debris packed into the fine mesh over the speaker or microphone are among the most frequent causes of muffled or low volume. Using a soft brush and gentle filtered air — never sharp metal or liquids that can push grime deeper — we carefully clear the grilles and retest. In many cases sound is fully restored with no part needed.

💡 Please avoid poking the mesh with pins or blowing high-pressure air yourself — that pushes debris inward and can rupture the delicate screen.

  4. 4

    Determine the faulty component

If cleaning and software checks don't resolve it, we isolate the failed part. Because each audio component is separate, we confirm whether it's the loudspeaker assembly, the earpiece module (often shared with a sensor flex), or a specific microphone (phones have several — bottom, top, and rear). This ensures we replace only what's actually broken.

💡 Replacing only the failed module keeps your repair affordable and avoids disturbing healthy parts of the phone.

  5. 5

    Careful disassembly

We gently warm the adhesive to soften the waterproof seal, then use a suction cup and thin picks to open the phone without cracking the screen or back glass. Inside, we disconnect the battery first for safety and detach the necessary shields and connectors to reach the audio component.

💡 Warming and slow, even prying preserve the original seal channel, which makes a proper waterproof reassembly possible.

  6. 6

Replace the speaker or microphone module

We remove the faulty loudspeaker, earpiece, or microphone and install a quality-matched replacement, transferring any acoustic gaskets or mesh where required so the new part seats and seals correctly. Connectors are reseated firmly and shields refitted before we power on for a first test.

💡 The acoustic gasket around a speaker matters as much as the driver itself — a missing gasket causes rattles and lost bass.

  7. 7

Full audio test: calls, recordings & speakerphone

Before resealing, we verify every audio path: a two-way test call to confirm both earpiece and microphone, media playback and speakerphone for the loudspeaker, and a voice recording plus playback so we can hear your captured voice clearly. We also check that no crackling or distortion remains at full volume.

💡 Testing before sealing means if anything is off we can correct it without reopening a freshly waterproofed phone.

  8. 8

Reseal, restore water resistance & final QC

We fit fresh adhesive gaskets and waterproof seal strips, then press the phone closed evenly so the seal cures properly — an original factory rating can rarely be guaranteed after any opening, but we restore water resistance as fully as possible. A final quality check confirms audio, buttons, and sensors all work before we return your device.

💡 Please avoid submerging any repaired phone; even a factory-sealed device loses water resistance as it ages.

Frequently asked questions

People say my voice sounds muffled or far away — is my microphone broken?

Not necessarily. The most common cause is lint or debris packed into the microphone mesh, or a case/screen protector covering the mic hole. We clean and test first at no charge, and only recommend a microphone replacement if the fault remains.

My earpiece is silent but the speakerphone works fine — how is that possible?

The earpiece speaker (for calls held to your ear) and the loudspeaker (for speakerphone and media) are separate components, so one can fail while the other works perfectly. We diagnose which one is faulty and replace only that module.

Will my phone still be waterproof after a speaker or mic repair?

We always install fresh waterproof gaskets and reseal carefully to restore water resistance as fully as possible. However, once a phone has been opened, the original factory rating can rarely be guaranteed, so we recommend keeping any repaired device away from water.
